Trip Calculator
Use this calculator to assist in selecting an aircraft for your trip!
Some points to consider when selecting an aircraft...
-
Passenger room and comfort.
- Useful load.
- Fuel and endurance.
- Speed.
As an example three people with luggage and camping equipment are planning a trip to the Australian outback.
Cessna 172
- Full fuel cannot be carried. (Safety factor)
- Additional fuel stops are required in remote locations.
- The journey is reasonably slow.
Cessna 182
- Full fuel can be carried. (Safety factor)
- Fewer fuel stops are required.
- The journey is noteably quicker than a 172.
At the time this scenario was created a Cessna 182 cost approximately 5% more per nautical mile. With fewer fuel stops required the cost of the C182 should actually be less! Given the reduced fuel stops, added safety, increased comfort and speed, and likely cost savings.. the decision should be easy!
