Courses Overview
Airborne Aviation has an extensive range of courses available.
A private pilot licence allows you to fly for pleasure.
This course covers the essential skills to safely operate an aeroplane during daylight hours. Navigation skills to explore the countryside through various types of airspace are also covered in the second phase of this course.
Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)
A commercial pilot licence allows you work as a pilot.
As an extension to the private pilot licence, this course focuses on operating the aeroplane to a higher standard and as well as looking at commercial aspects of flight operations. Faster and more complex aeroplanes will be utilised for some of your training.
Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL)
An airline transport pilot licence is the highest achievable licence.
As an addition to your commercial pilot licence, your studies will be based upon operations of high capacity jet transport aircraft. A pass in all ATPL theory examinations is a requirement to apply for all major airlines.
Command Instrument Rating (MECIR / SECIR)
The command instrument rating allows you to fly in most weather conditions.
The training involves flying by reference solely to instruments to fly both en-route and safely conduct a various approach types without external visual references. An essential rating for airline employment or charter operations.
Flight Instructor Rating (FIR)
A flight instructor rating allows you to teach people to fly!
As an addition to your commercial pilot licence, the flight instructor rating enables you to train pilots in both theory and practical components of various licences, ratings and endorsements. This rating will maximise your employment opportunities as a low-hour commercial pilot.
Why limit yourself to flying by daylight hours only?
The night VFR rating allows you to fly by night when visual meteorological conditions exist. This rating is the perfect addition to a private pilot licence.
Larger and faster aircraft often have twin engines.
This course deals with specific skills required to safely and accurately operate a twin-engine aircraft. Each type of twin engine aircraft requires a specific type endorsement, your initial endorsement allows you to quickly and easily transition to other types in the future.
Glass Cockpit (Garmin G1000) Course
Glass cockpits are the way of the future, and found in all modern airliners.
This course introduces you to the new layout of the primary flight display and teaches you to adapt your instrument scan. Advanced features of the Garmin G1000 glass cockpit with integrated auto-pilot are also explored.
Constant Speed Unit (CSU) Endorsement
Faster and more powerful propeller aircraft typically operate with a CSU.
This course will teach you the basics of how and why a CSU is used on an aircraft, allowing you to maximise the efficiency of the aeroplane.
Retractable Undercarriage Endorsement
Wheels go up – wheels go down!
Aircraft designed to go fast typically have an undercarriage system that retracts in order to reduce drag when not in the landing configuration. This course explores the concepts and practical application.
Learn to fly a "tail dragger!"
A selection of our aircraft feature a tail wheel undercarriage. This course will explore the specifics of flying (in particular take-off and landing) an aircraft with this configuration.
Turn your world upside down with an aerobatic rating!
This course explores basic aerobatic manoeuvres for your initial rating. Further training is also available to explore more advanced manoeuvres and prepare you for entering your first aerobatic competition.
Discover the art of formation flying!
Learning to fly in formation with another aircraft is a lot of fun. You might be looking for the next challenge, or to add to your resume.
Global Positioning System (GPS) Ground Course
The future of navigation is GPS/GNSS.
This course will provide you with a logbook endorsement allowing you to add GPS to your approved en route navigation aids when flying Night VFR and/or IFR.
Refresh your skills if it has been a some time since obtaining your licence.
A short course designed to take you through all the essential elements that you may not have practiced since receiving your Private Pilot Licence. Safety is paramount when flying - ensure you are up to speed..
Emergency Manoeuvre Training (EMT)
Give yourself greater awareness, confidence and ability as a pilot.
Our Emergency Manoeuvre Training (EMT) course exposes you to common mishandling situations so that you can recognise the dangers and avoid them, or otherwise recover from any situation.
Operate safely and efficiently on unlicenced air strips.
Flying in and out of strips that are short, narrow, soft, surrounded by obstacles or any combination of these requires proper technique. This course looks to equip you with the necessary skills.
Step up to the world of turbine powered aircraft!
For initial turbine endorsements the ground school includes a comprehensive theory component covering turbines. Endorsement training is completed in a Cessna 208 Caravan with ICUS available for suitably experienced pilots.
Fly above the weather rather than through it.
High performance and high capacity aircraft typically feature a pressurised cabin. This pressurisation allows the aircraft to operate in the flight levels without the occupants requiring oxygen masks.
Give your flying companion the ability to help in an emergency.
Designed for partners or flying companions of pilots this course equips them with the basic knowledge and skills to be able to fly, navigate and land the aircraft in exceptional circumstances.
